At times, my career has been quite educational. When I’ve illustrated herbs, I became knowledgeable about their properties and usefulness as remedies.
I’ve been sharing a lot of different categories of illustrations that I’ve done over my career. Of course, I still have a lot of paintings left. I decided I’d categorize the ones for this particular post as the illustrations where I needed to do something other than usual photorealism.
In 1997, I received an assignment from the east coast. I would be illustrating a series of note cards for a publisher called Creative Horizons (no longer in existence). I ended up illustrating six butterflies, a honeybee, and two flowers. Of those paintings, only four butterflies were published. Continue reading
During the time that I was an illustration instructor, I became quite busy with my freelance career. It seemed like a logical idea to employ some of my students to help me when I became “overloaded.” I had worked briefly for another illustrator, so I understood the value in helping to mentor my students while at the same time benefiting from reducing any work that could be delegated.
